Wait a wee minute, JP’s wife, I know I’m a bit late in reading this and replying, but caught my husband looking up Nina, so came across your comments about Mister Maker. Daydreams about him - that’s just wrong! Even Pete Hillier is more fanciable (although Cbeebies presenter Sid is more my cup of tea).

Funny, all my copies of Prediction (inherited from a friend a couple of years ago) are from late 1984 onwards! Maybe we should do a swap one day! I did subscribe for a year or two about ten years ago too.

Am I allowed to mention the name of the censored advert? (why censored? they published it for public viewing!). I have to say they changed the photo later on to a more indistinct version of the man in charge.

Prediction is now a women’s “horoscope” magazine and nothing to do with the occult. Only the name is the same. I complained to the editor, but she said it would have closed and jobs lost if it had not changed. I think the new publisher just wanted to make it populist. A sad end.

Nah, of all the meters, iambic pentameter is a piece of cake. Easy. Every single line goes: daDUM daDUM daDUM daDUM daDUM. And that’s it. Used by everyone from Shakespeare to Lady Gaga.

Now if I did it in elegiac couplets or hendecasyllables… that’d be showing off.

How very true.

Here in the States, the poor are seen as the problem. For some reason, many of the middle class are convinced that the poor could just cease to be poor, if they decided one day to ‘not be lazy.’ I can’t fathom what has to go through one’s head to be convinced of that.
